Hands off Final Fantasy X!

Hi!
Yes, this is Cheesy Voice Acting Week and yes, I told our lovely banner artist to make Yuna the focus of the banner, but the buck ends there, I think. I constantly tear Final Fantasy X to pieces and make it the centre of many voice acting complaints, but I’m not going to touch it this week. Nope. I’ve done it enough, and it’d be too easy and expected. It also gives the impression that I hate that game when I actually like it more than FFVII, and I love that game. So! Let’s see what happens when I actually use my brain…

Get it? I need to LAY OFF of Yuna? Heh? ...c'mon...

@Ethos- It’s so confusing to hear you speak about FFX, half the time you attack it, while the other half of the time you’re defending it … :/

    @SN – Bah-ha ha ha, I know.
I’m very critical of the things I love although my painted reputation might have you believe otherwise. I could easily list off things I don’t like about any of the games I jizz all over.

@Riddles – Whatever, it was awesome!

What don’t you like about Flower?

I don’t like that there’s no way to turn off the mini cut-scenes that show you what parts you’ve healed or where to go next. Not only is it fairly apparent anyway, but when trying to replay a level for what the game does best – mood – it takes you out of it. It’s not a game that does well to have breaks in the middle of gameplay.
I don’t like a few of the nit-picky flying mechanics. The sense of speed when making a nosedive is incredible, but for some unknown reason, the expected collision with the ground is avoided. The player has to turn up a little first before he can then finish his mad dash for the grass. It’s so satisfying when you thud into the ground, and the petals fly, and the grass sways, and it would be even more so if you could zoom down from high heights. It makes no sense why not, and like the mini-cutscenes it’s counter-intuitive to the themes and general gameplay philosophy.
I don’t like the stupid haystacks in the fourth level. The fourth level is also a little too short and a little too simple, even for the theme of the level.
    Those are some things.

Being able to criticize the things you love but still love them is a great ability to have. Like me with FFVII, or Persona 3/4. I’ll admit there are flaws in the games, but damn if I can’t forgive every single one of them while I’m playing.

Either that, or Ethos actually has a really severe case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde syndrom. Either way makes for good reading.

On another note, at one point in EGM there was a photoshoped version of the picture the banner’s based off of that has a plus-sized Yuna in the same outfit. I was going to try to make some kind of bad photoshop implying that Yuna ate the cheese in the picture and turned fat, but I couldn’t find the “fat yuna” version. I did come across this, though, and figure Ethos might enjoy it:

    Oh wow …. nice!

  7. Ethos says:

I wish I could say I haven’t seen that before, Darth, but the world of sexy Tifa cosplayers is not a new one to me.
And I can’t believe you never heard of aerisdies.com!

  8. DarthGibblet says:

haha, yeah, I’d never heard of aerisdies.com until just now. I suppose now it’s too late to go back :F.

  9. Ethos says:

    Oh jeez, sorry, Darth!
You’ll never get those NIGHTS AND NIGHT AND NIGHTS back.
    …not that I know from experience…
    I do.
    I do know from experience.
