Sigh.
I mean, hello and welcome to the -
Wait, how many of these things have I done?
*does a quick count*
This is only my eighteenth? Shyoot, I thought there were more. And that one Ethan wrote doesn’t count. So… this is the SEVENTEENTH edition of Hey! Look! Listen! brought to you by Riddlethos, and more specifically, by Riddles. Me. Oliver Motok.
Okay… I suppose we’ll have to head into the news at some point.

Now there's some photo-shoppage for ya.
“I just couldn’t wait” – Oliver Motok to Host BioShock 2 Week at Riddlethos
You heard it here first, ladies and gents. Because he just can’t wait any longer to spew his fanboyish praises for BioShock and its upcoming sequel, Riddlethos will be featuring a BioShock 2 theme week months before the game’s February 11 release.
Sound like a dumb idea? That’s only because YOU’RE a dumb person. BioShock 2 Week is scheduled to hit Riddlethos on October 26. Be there.
What the – There’s no NEWS. At all. Anywhere. Oh bother.
Yeah, you heard what I said. There’s NOTHING. This sucks. I want news. I want material. I want to write a long, meaty Hey! Look! Listen! for the reading pleasure of my… ah, my readers.
Sigh. Well, uh… Borderlands came out. It’s been rather well-received too, from what I understand. I had a passing interest, but once I discovered it was more of a “lootfarming” game than anything else, I got kinda turned off. Still, looks like something I might pick up for cheap one day.
How about you guys? Anyone out there playing Borderlands?
Yeah, There’s Definitely No News
So you know what?
SCREW YOU GUYS, I’M GOIN’ HOME!

Best HLL EVER. (after mine of course)
I’ve gotten halfway through Bioshock, which I got recently for the PC, and I’m kind of bored with it. I got through the Hephaetus area and to a not particularly surprising “big reveal.” Something about that plot twist just really didn’t work for me. I don’t want to be specific due to spoilers (the game is only ~2 years old and I know some other people must not have finished it yet either), but some combo of “obviously evil” and an attempted mind f#%& “you are a puppet” thing…I’ve seen this before and it wasn’t pulled off very well.
Maybe I’ll change my opinion of it later in, but I’m not seeing it.
Bioshock was superb and its plot twist supremely implimented, but I just can’t get excited for the sequel.
@evilpaul – Yeah, the Bioshock twist just seemed like Portal but not as good. I really liked Bioshock but it was too long and it suffered noticably for it.
Can you tell how excited I am for this stupid Bioshock 2 week? Might as well have Final Fantasy XIII Week.
@Ethos – That’s funny, I’d describe Portal’s plot twist as like Bioshock’s, but not as good. I still think Portal was a better game over all, but I thought it telegraphed the twist much more than Bioshock did (although, in hindsight, both were pretty bleeding obvious).
@EvilPaul – In my opinion, the game’s kind of down hill from the plot twist on. If you’re not sucked into it by now, you might be S.O.L, sorry. Good news, though, is you’re over 1/2 way done (I think), so maybe you’ll just want to finish it for the sake of finishing it.
@SN – I thought the best part of Bioshock was the atmosphere, which was superb. I thought the rest of the game was good, but not great.
I’m mildly interested in Borderlands if I can find people to play with. I’ve heard the game’s not worth mentioning if you’re playing solo.
@DG- Yeah that’s how I feel about it for the most part, great atmosphere and story with serviceable gameplay. One thing I will give it though, is that it tried to switch up gameplay every now and then, which did leave a favourable impression on me.
@Darth – Yeah, I agree that they’re both obvious, but I think Portal’s is more dramatic. Like, the gameplay reflects the twist in a far better way. I actually think it’s more effective with Portal when you sense something’s coming. Because you don’t know WHAT is going to happen and WHEN. Bioshock is just like “ha ha! Fuck you!”
Yeah, the game plays well. It’s tight and it WAS fun to switch things up a bit, SN, I agree. But ultimately the atmosphere was the best part, and that’s why it falls apart after that art section. The pacing flies off track, the atmosphere crumbles, and you just want the game to end.
@Ethos – Agrees about Portal’s gameplay before/after twist. One of my girlfriend’s friends was over last weekend and she was playing that, so I got to re-watch more or less the whole game, and I really do love how the feel of the levels changes after the final test. In my opinion, though, that last portion of the game dragged on for about 15-30 minutes too long. The last room more or less made up for it, though. Epic stuff. It’s weird that both games seem to suffer from the same back-heavy issues, even though they’re so drastically different in most regards. Although Bioshock didn’t have the awesome finale to save it’s ending. Oh well, maybe that’s what they’re making Bioshock 2 for :F.
Random aside, I just saw that Steam has a 4-pack of Borderlands for $35/copy, so it looks like I’ll be picking that up with a few friends come Tuesday :F. Huzzah for Cheap Ass Gamer!
The “haha fuck you!” part is one of the greatest moments in gaming, as it forces you to examine elements of game design that you’d always taken for granted.
-The game was pretty awesome right up to the end, but then gave you a lame boss fight and a lamer ending. The only bits other than that that I really hated was the big daddy bit (cumbersome) and the bit where your Plasmids keep spassing out. Personally I think the game should have ended with you killing Fontaine, and then having to escape though each level as Rapture slowly fills with water and falls apart (though of course that would preclude a sequel).
Bah-ha ha ha, this news is extra hilarious now.
Dramatic irony is always awesome
Retrospect can be delightful on occaision.
