Well shoot, Swords and Sorcery Week is gone and I didn’t even get the chance to write some Dragon Age impressions.
Although, seems as if my lightweight of a partner didn’t fare much better. Damn weekends. Always manage to bite us in the ass. In any case, I promise I’ll write something about Dragon Age tomorrow. (Preview: it’s the best RPG I’ve played in years.)
But enough lamenting; there is cause for great joy. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hits stores in about 21 hours. Or, if you’re lucky enough to live in the Northeastern part of the States, it hit a couple of days ago. Lucky bastards.
All considered, it’s probably the world’s most anticipated release of 2009. The original Modern Warfare took the gaming world by storm back in 2007; now, it’s time to see if developer Infinity Ward can up the ante.
I’m fairly confident they can. And I’m beyond excited to see the results.

I must be the only person in the gaming world to be utterly indifferent to MW2.
It might be true, SN. While I’ve never cared about CoD before, this one is actually exciting me.
HOWEVER, I probably won’t be buying it this week, and therefore you’re likely going to be getting belated Dragon Age impressions from my end. That game is the shit. So. Good.
It’s not like I don’t want to play it, I’d probably have a lot of fun, but I could just take it and leave it. IMO half of it’s appeal is pure unadulterated marketing and fanboy nerdgasm word of mouth. If you do feel like picking it up, I would heartily encourage you shop ethically and buy it second hand, so as not to give one red cent to that greedy fat cat Kotick.
Well we’ll see what the availability is at whatever time I am able to buy it. I just know the campaign of MW1 was highly praised, and I saw extensive play of the online multiplayer and was impressed. That’s what my hype is based on.
The campaign mode of the original Modern Warfare is the best six hours I’ve ever spent with a first-person shooter. There’s a ton of hype, yes, but there’s a reason for it.
@Noob: I hate Kotick as well, believe me. Although I do have a great deal of respect for developer Infinity Ward. Any way around it, I’ll be picking up MW2 at midnight tonight. Full retail.
@SN: I’m right there with you on the apathy for MW2. CoD4 was good and all, but I never got into the campaign or anything like that, so I’m just not that hyped on MW2. The biggest impact it’s had on my life recently is that one of my friends decided to get Borderlands instead, so I’ve been playing that with him. Without a doubt, the next game I’m picking up is either Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2, depending on when my schedule eases up a bit.
I’m with Riddles on the “buying things retail,” though. Not really to support the developers (worthy cause though it may be), I just hardly ever mind paying the $5 (or whatever) extra to get the game new. I don’t particularly care where my gaming money goes after it leaves my wallet, but implying that I’m unethical for wanting to purchase a game retail might be a bit much :F.
Yeah, I don’t even know who Kotick is, but I generally like to give money to the gaming industry. And MW2 is obviously the product of more than just one man.
If I’m not mistaken, Kotick’s the president or CEO or something of Acti-Blizard and he is, from every account I’ve read, a total douche. Still doesn’t mean his company can’t make good games, though :D.
Absolutely dreadful! What rock have you been living under that you don’t know Bobby Kotick?
@SN, by the sounds of what you, Darth, and Riddles are saying, it sounds like a GOOD thing that I don’t know about him.
@Ethos – probably, yes. If anyone can make you respect the industry less, it’s him.
Regardless, MW2 is amazing. Time to play.
@Ethos- Bobby Kotick could come to your house, and knock on your door, and you wouldn’t even know you were looking pure malevolent evil in the face.
@SN: Is that supposed to be a negative point :D?
You want to leave yourself vulnerable to Kotick?
That’s true. He’s like a vampire. He’ll seduce you, then leave you a drained husk of a person.
… and not in a good way Ethan.
I need that clarification.
Yes, yes you do :)
Yeah, I was trying to find a way to describe what vampires do that wouldn’t appeal to Ethos. I failed :f.
