And we're so happy that I'm groping Riddles
Yes, you greedy fuckers, we’re back!
It was nice to be so terrifyingly missed over the week. Your comments below make me both feel loved and scared for my life. Either way, I’m glad to be back. I’ve done a whole shit-ton of nothing over the week, and have spent the smallest amount of time on the internet since its invention. I played a bunch of games, sure, but now’s no time to talk about that!
Yes, this is the first of two Award Weeks here at Riddlethos. We will be ignoring our regular Hey! Look! Listen! and Scatter Storming features to bring you what we feel deserves our praise in video games this year. Riddles and I will have separate picks for each category except the final Game of the Year selection. It all starts Tuesday, but I’m going to give you all the schedule now so that the speculation can begin instantly!

Well, Best Visual Experience (uncharted 2, of course) Most Badass (Assassin’s Creed 2) Most Surprising (Demon’s Souls or Arkham Assylum) Biggest Letdown (RE5) Most Addictive (DAO) Most Atmospheric (all of the above!) The One That Got Away (I’ve not a clue what you mean by this?).
As for GOTY I’d say either Uncharted 2 or DAO, though I also kind of favour ACII as an outside chance.
RE5 as biggest let down come on now there were so many more let downs killzone 2, fallout 3, halo odst,
I haven’t played ODST, but RE5 was far worse than Killzone 2 and Fallout 3, and the comparative quality of RE4 just makes it’s shittyness all the more pronounced.
Also, Fallout 3 was 2008 wasn’t it?
check-mate
The one that got away (I dont get it) . what is that categorie?
Here’s my list:
Best Visuals – Probably Valkyria Chronicles, just because it has such an interesting look to it.
Most Addicting – Persona 3. I know it came out a few years ago at this point, but I just played it this year for the first time, so I’m counting it. I was COMPLETELY hooked around February/March to the point where that was all I did with my free time for several weeks in a row.
Most Badass – Probably Prototype. It’s story really isn’t worth mentioning in the slightest, but it makes you feel completely overpowered right from the beginning.
Best Atmosphere – I guess Fallout for this one (again, I played it this year, so I’m counting it :F). I didn’t really play too many games with good “atmosphere” this year.
Most Surprising – Definitely Borderlands. Didn’t expect to enjoy that nearly as much as I did.
Biggest Letdown – Does riddlethos.com count :D? I kid because I love! If I had to pick one, I’d say The World Ends with You, just because I’ve heard so many people enjoy it so much, then I just thought it was kind of “meh.”
One that Got Away – I’m assuming this means game you really wanted to play but didn’t get a chance to, in which case it’s Assassin’s Creed 2 for me.
Game of the Year – Persona 3, no question. Playing through that, I was reminded just how much fun I can have while playing a game. I know I’m probably the only one who was that blown away by it, but I’m OK with that :D.
@Darth: I love Persona 3 and 4. They’re my favorite PS2 RPGs aside from Final Fantasy XII. Persona 3 was definitely my GOTY back in 2007.
You’re definitely not the only one who was blown away by it, believe me.
And just to lay all speculation to rest, One that Got Away does indeed refer to a game(s) me and Ethos regret letting slip past us in ‘09.
Cool to see your list Darth, people should feel free to post theirs if they’d like. Although it might make sense to wait for the individual posts!
My one that got away was Chronicles of Riddick.
