Here we are! The last update of the week. I’m about to get my 8th badge, and I still only have 5 Pokeymans in my party. I’m thinking of getting a Horsea to teach it the overwhelming number of stupid water HMs I need to learn, but then I have too much water and electric in my party. Oh well, here you go.
Typhlosion lvl 36 - I know, I know. I’ve wanted to get rid of this guy forever. He’s actually pretty strong even though he looks like a dork. Still, if I can ever figure this Safari Zone thing out (the new Jhoto version is confusing even with the internet), I’ll ditch it for Houndoom in a second. If only fire wasn’t so hard to come by.
Ampharos lvl 36 - Bloo-ya! It finally happened, and he’s just as strong as I remember. Only thing is, because of a strange twist of unexpected fishing events, I now have two electric types in my team which I wouldn’t prefer. So now I’m placed in the bizarre position of wanting to drop the Pokémon I’ve been waiting since the original Silver to have in my party again. Fuck you, Lanturn! Speaking of…
Lanturn lvl 36 - If only this little random wasn’t so good. Very few Pokémon are good against it, and dual water-electric is insanely useful. Her moveset is perfect and her stats are good, so she’s not going anywhere. But it’s almost too perfect. I don’t want to teach her Waterfall because it’s physical, and I don’t want to teach her Whirlpool, because it’s a piece of shit. Also, Ampharos knows Strength and Thunder Wave (for catching wild Pokeymans), so ugh…I might end up with Lanturn/Ampharos/Seadra. Maybe to balance I’ll need to get rid of…
Stantler lvl 36 - This guy has surprised me! After learning another move so I don’t have to ration so hard, Stantler has been a powerhouse. Still, I know normal-type Pokémon are largely doomed, and if I end up with half my party as water and electric, he’ll need to leave to make room for more elements. Sorry, bizarre, tough little deer.
Pidgeot lvl 36 - Nothing else to say about this dude. I guess I could comment on his ridiculous “hair”. I think I prefer Staraptor. Sorry, Pidgeot, I know you’re classic, and you’re going to stick around in my party, but the new guy is better.
Well! Wasn’t that fun! Maybe very few of you care about Pokémon, but at least I can update about the game I’m playing during its theme week. Riddles will have a Soapbox for you later. Or so he says, I’m not holding my breath.

Houndoom is only availible post national dex. It’s better to just catch a Houndour on route 7 (Celedon/Saffron).
I fear for your team the Elite Four is brutal. Also, Lanturn (while being electric) has a weak ass sp. Def, thus making it suceptiple to the majority of electric attacks. Go with Quagsire for the Water HMs you need to use.
Here is how my HMs break down:
Typhosion: Cut
Lugia: Fly
Gyarados: Waterfall
Ampharos: Rock Climb
Quagsire: Rock Smash, Whirlpool, Surf
And I grab an Onyx for the few times I need strength.
Anyway, just my two thoughts.
I said Houndoom, but I meant Houndour evolving into Houndoom. And that’s not true, both are available in the Jhoto Safari Zone.
And my Lanturn absorbs electric moves, so electric has nothing on me.
Ah.
Really? Damn, I waited all that time to get a Houndour :(
What seems to be your problem with the Safari zone?
Have you given the Warden a Geodude yet?
@SN – Bah-ha. These PokéUpdates wouldn’t have been the same without your “ah”!
@Josh – Yeah, and the Sandshrew after that. It’s other weird shit with waiting days and different types of items that make certain species appear. It’s way too complicated when the Safari Zone has always been stupid anyway.
Agreed.
On my platinum I have a NEARLY completed Pokedex… you know where the majority of missing Pokemon are from? Pastoria Great Marsh (the WORST adaptation of the worst mechanic)
Anyway, I’ll let you know when I figure it all out.
BTW, what do you think of the awesomeness of the Pokewalker?
Been MIA for a few weeks so I have a lot of catching up to do at Riddlethos. Stantler is in my party too. Damn thing. I hate unevolving normal-types, but the stupid deer keeps proving useful. I even kicked it out of the party once, but brought it back when its replacement stunk. I’m at the elite 4 with:
Feraligatr (because there just aren’t enough water pokemon in the game, right? At least he’s awesome)
Lugia
Stantler
Magneton
Arbok
Lapras (newest addition, not sure if its a keeper)
Yeah, I was wondering where you went! Good to have you back.
Did I know you were a Pokémon guy? I don’t remember that.
Although Stantler never stopped being awesome, I remembered my Platinum game, and traded myself a Riolu and Houndour and made my horsea into Kingdra. So after way too much training:
Houndoom
Ampharos
Lanturn
Lucario
Kingdra
Pidgeot
