Welcome to Always Sunny Season 6 Week!

Yes, the name is unwieldy, but aptly descriptive. This week will be spent examining the recently-concluded sixth season of the FX sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s one of my favorite shows on television, and if you don’t like it, then you’re just lame.

Nah, I’m kidding. That was harsh. But yeah, it’s Always Sunny Season 6 Week, brought to you exclusively by me, Oliver “Riddles” Motok. I know that my sole contribution last week was an odd little aside where I talked largely about books and sandwiches, but I’m ready to step it up this week, and bring you some meaty, satisfying content. That’s what I’m good at doing, dont’cha know.

Well. Anyway. While I’m here… how about them VGAs, huh? Not that I actually, like… watched them or anything. Partly because I don’t have cable, but also because I don’t particularly care about the awards themselves. All I care to see are the epic game announcements accompanied by equally epic trailers. And, all it takes to see those is a quick hop over to GameTrailers.com.

As of now, I’ve seen the trailers for Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, and Elder Scrolls 5. Since I’ve never played an Elder Scrolls game, I only really care about the first three. (Plus the Elder Scrolls trailer was hardly informative, or even interesting to anyone unfamiliar with the franchise lore, I presume.)

First off, Arkham City. The trailer was super-slick, and looked fantastic. But it was all CG. No gameplay. Regardless, it was intriguing enough, and reveals the apparent main villain of the game: Hugo Strange. For those unfamiliar with Batman lore, (I had to consult Wikipedia myself) Strange is a longtime villain of Batman’s, and his only apparent powers are that a) He’s a mad scientist and b) he knows Batman’s true identity. Seems like an obscure choice to me. Makes me wonder what sort of role The Joker will have.

Next? Uncharted Fucking 3, baby. Uncharted 3. A shame the trailer’s a bit on the wankerish side, at least for the first half or so, with Drake monologuing about dreams and whatnot. However, it ends strong – and it has Sully, which gets major props. Oh, and it’s set in the desert. Ethan’s already whined about the desert thing in a voicemail he left me some days ago. I actually just listened to it today. I tend to let messages sit for days before actually listening to them.

And then Mass Effect 3. Wooo boy, did this one look good. Short, slick, and fully CG once again, but awesome nonetheless. In yet another phone message that I listened to today, Pipher complained – once again – about the setting: Earth. Yes, Mass Effect 3 will take place – at least partially – on Earth. And I think that’s pretty cool, actually. We’ve seen the far-reaching effects of our exodus from earth in the first two Mass Effects, and personally, I’d kinda like to see how things are going back home.

Oh, yeah, and I think the desert thing is cool too. So. Ethan, seriously. Just get over it.

    - Yeah, I’ve seen a few people complaining about ME3 having Earth as a setting, and I don’t really get it. I kind of always figured the trilogy’s final confrontation would take place on earth, just like every other “aliens are wiping out humans” story does.

    - The AC trailer looks really cool. It made me want to actually play AA. I picked up the game on sale a few months back on Steam and it’s still sitting there unopened (metaphorically, of course)

    - I thought this season of Always Sunny started out a little slow to start out, but then picked up after the first few episodes. I loved the Halloween Party one and thought the finale was appropriately hilarious (thank god they got rid of the kid, though). Also, I now have the Always Sunny theme stuck in my head.

    A desert?!?!??!

I don’t fucking play sci-fi to explore the planet I’VE LIVED ON FOR OVER TWO DECADES!
I liked it better when the aliens were wiping out everybody, not just humans. Who gives a fuck about humans? Not me, that’s who. Maybe I should rant all this to video using Riddles’ camera that I still have and post it to YouTube.

@Ethos: Have they said they’re not wiping out everyone? Like I said on Facebook, I’m still hoping most of the game is spent exploring the galaxy, same as the previous games. I assume during that time you could stop the Reapers from attacking all those other planets, too, you know?

Yeah, I’m sure too. And I’m sure both games will be awesome, the reveals just did nothing but extinguish my enthusiasm.

Uncharted’s desert still bores the shit out of me, and Mass Effect’s shitty reveal trailer feels more like Gears of War 3. Boooo.

Batman looks good though. Liking Hugo Strange. A better counterpoint to the Joker than Harley.

But the Hugo Strange/Joker porn isn’t nearly as hot.

I live about 15 minutes outside Philly, so I’m legally obligated to watch and love Sunny.

    Batman: Don’t care.

    Uncharted: Care more about Batman.

ME3: wut? So Shepard needs to raise an army/get a MacGuffin to stop the Reapers who’re laying waste to Earth? Is it just me or are Reapers undergoing severe bad ass decay?

@Darth – Maybe not to you!

I’d love for riddlethos.com to start having Ethan video rants. It’s been too long since the adorably awkward vgarblog updates on YouTube. I don’t even remember what you look like anymore. You’re muscular, black, masculine, and bi-curious, right? On an unrelated note, I hope Jacob returns in ME3.

Happy to hear about all of the above, looking forward to Uncharted 3 the most. I’m too blinded by how much I enjoy the series to worry too much about the desert setting, after how good the first two games were I’m giving Naughty Dog the benefit of the doubt.

My favorite episode of Season 6 is “The Gang Buys a Boat.” :)

Was the batman movie video trailer a movie video trailer or a game? If so what is the gameplay like, assuming it’s a game. If it’s not for a game then who is in the movie. I’m too old for the internet.
