Let’s have a moment of silence for our fallen friend.

The Grande No Water With Whip Tazo Chai.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I suppose I probably SHOULD describe this drink for those poor confused souls who have never tasted it.
I’m sure most of you have at least heard of chai tea. It’s a sort of spicy black tea, and the only black tea I enjoy. Starbucks has done a wonderful thing and made a chai concentrate so that the delicious flavour can be transferred into a milk-based beverage.
BRILLIANT.
It doesn’t end there. For whatever reason, the Starbucks recipe dictates that after the concentrate is in the cup, it must be filled with half hot water and half steamed milk.
BULLSHIT, I say!
Luckily, one can specify that the drink be made with ALL steamed milk, and it will be at zero extra charge!

THUS the “No water” modifier.
I think, clever readers, that you are catching on!

That modifier is fairly common, however the Ethos twist enters at “with whip”. I get a lot of strange looks for this one, but when the chai latte flavours that perfect real whipping cream, the drink tastes like autumn perfection. Any bitterness melts away, and my happiness swells like a teenage boy seeing his first pair of naked breasts.
Also, “Grande” is the size and “Tazo” is the brand of chai tea they use.
THAT’S what a Grande No Water With Whip Tazo Chai is.
And if you readers can put two and two together (I’m sure you can), Riddles’ declaration that his Chai Count is zero is equivalent to him admitting that he’s too terrified to talk to the super-cute baristas that work in the Starbucks near his house.

Which brings me to another point that’s just as embarrassing for Riddles as the “I am Better at Video Games Than Riddles” post is. Although he has lived in Tennessee for much of his life, and I have been there 10 days, I am far more familiar with the cute girl landscape than he is. Hrm…
What words am I looking for? Oh right…
SUCK IT!

Hey! Look! Listen!

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Well God damn, Square Enix finally gave us a release date for Final Fantasy XIII. A Japanese release date perhaps, but a release date NONETHELESS.

Ahem. Welcome to yet another edition of Hey! Look! Listen! I am your host Oliver Motok, and this article is being produced to the sound of Green Day’s American Idiot album. Just… just an FYI.

So gorgeous.

So gorgeous.

Oh hey, Final Fantasy XIII news
Not just the fact that the release date was announced. There was a brand-new demo on the floor of the release party, and a bunch of people got their hands on it, Kotaku being one of them.

In addition to that, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada stated: “In the past, it’s taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring”. So. If he’s true to his word, we might see the game sooner than expected.

PS3 Slim Racks Up Big Sales
People are loving the PS3 Slim. According to Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, In Japan, system sold over 150,000 units in its first three days on the market, which is phenomenal given the sales history of the PS3. VGchartz is even reporting that the system has sold over 500,000 units worldwide since its launch, which is an amazing – and unconfirmed – number.

I could offer some intelligent commentary here, but I believe that I’ll instead let PS3FTW, resident of VGchartz’s message forums, do the talking:

Elegant.

Again: Gorgeous.

Oh Hey, 1UP Liked Murumasa: The Demon Blade
It’s true, they did. Check out their review here.

I was actually going to possibly buy that game today, but then I started playing Arkham Asylum and COMPLETELY forgot about it. And now it’s 1 in the morning and my GameStop is long closed. Ah well, perhaps tomorrow. Or maybe I’ll just play more Batman.

There really wasn’t much to that one, eh? A shame, I really thought more news might come out of the FFXIII release party. But hey, I did my best.

Oh, and this is still the dumbest theme week ever. Want to know what MY Grande No Water with Whip Tazo Chai count is? ZERO.

I am Better at Video Games Than Riddles

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I was just on the phone with everybody’s favourite Riddles and we were talking about the Batman game that we’re both playing through. I’m a little further than he is, and he was describing a boss battle that was giving him trouble. After some investigation, it turns out that I beat that battle with more ease than he did…and we’re playing on the same difficulty level.
Then I reminded him of the time that I beat he and his friend at Call of Duty: World at War in two straight games when I had never played the game before. He and his friend had played. Many times.

Riddles got terrified and refused to talk about it any further because this means we came to a horrifying conclusion: I am better at video games than Riddles. The world is a scary place, and this new fact confirms it.

But MY conclusion? Suck it, Riddles!

Batman Update and the Chai Count Begins

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I was just telling my friend, abe80 about how Batman: Arkham Asylum and I have a strange relationship.
I get really excited to play the game. I look forward to it and when I turn it on, I have an absolute blast with it. However, after about an hour or so, I get suddenly bored. I’m still digging the story, the gameplay is still fresh, and collectibles haven’t been so fun since the new Prince of Persia, but for some reason, I have a huge compulsion to put the game down after only a moderately meaty session.
Perhaps an hour or two seems like a long time, but may I remind you that I beat inFamous in about 4 or 5 sittings and Uncharted in a single sitting. Also, I went through my second playthrough of Shadow of the Colossus in a single sitting, and Mass Effect would keep me up until 6 in the morning when I had work the next day. So when I love a game, I usually go at it non-stop. However although I really only have good things to say about Batman, and there’s no reason for it, the game doesn’t hold my attention for more than a few hours.
Go figure!
Anyway, I had my first Grande No Water With Whip Tazo Chai today, so I’ll be posting the current count at the end of every post. And maybe I’ll even convince Riddles to get one! I know for a fact that he has a Starbucks VERY close to his house, and that at least two cute, and one super-hot barista work there. He has no reason NOT to!

Yes yes, confirmed!

Like rumoured below and like commented on the rumour below, Final Fantasy XIII is confirmed for release in Japan on December 17th.
That places a North American release date between March and July.
Based on complete speculation, that is.
Oh, and the Japanese get a PS3 bundle too.

Final Fantasy XIII Japanese Release Date Revealed…?

Monday, September 7th, 2009

While this isn’t “official,” per se, it’s pretty damn legit. According to an ad campaign on YouTube Japan, Final Fantasy XIII will be released in the Land of the Rising Sun on December 17.

The campaign started as soon as Tuesday dawned in Japan. The catch is that the release date wasn’t actually displayed; some crafty Japs found it by messing with the URLs for the flash ads. By changing a “Before” to “After,” they unearthed this little gem:

ff13ad

Tomorrow is the day that Final Fantasy XIII’s release date and price are rumored to be revealed in Japan, so this ad only makes sense. Take this as a rumor if you like to play it safe, but I think we can put our trust in this one.

Yeah Baby!

Riddles had his shitty Xeno-whatever week, and now it’s my time to shine!
Autumn is beginning to expose her beautiful and generous bosom and with it comes all of the season’s glory. Beautiful trees, inspiring smells, girls in pretty sweaters, and best of all the Grande No Water With Whip Tazo Chai. Ah yes, the perfect drink for the Fall.
Now what does all that have to do with video games?
Fuck off!
The drink makes me happy, and so do video games. That’s a good enough of a connection for me.
I run my own site, I can do what I want!
But I suppose in an attempt to tie some things together, I will try to focus on games and moments in games that bring me the same inspiration as my favourite Starbucks perfection.
Let the madness begin!

Me in the Autumn at all times.

Me in the Autumn at all times.

This is the dumbest theme week ever

Monday, September 7th, 2009

My point exactly.

My point exactly.

Grande No Water with Tazo what-now? We have a theme week based around a fucking Starbucks beverage?

Wow, I wonder who the fruitcake who came up with THAT one was.

Wanna know something really weird, though? I actually HAD Starbucks this morning. It was completely random, too; I was carpooling to work with some friends and they decided to stop at Starbucks. Now you must understand, I almost NEVER drink coffee or coffee-related beverages. But since I was at a Starbucks, I decided what the hell, and ordered an iced caramel latte. ‘Twas quite good.

But that aside, this is still the dumbest theme week ever. Like… EVER. Don’t ask me what to expect, because I sure as hell don’t know. Maybe Ethan will post pictures of various empty Starbucks cups with cute dialogues MS Painted on them. As for me, I’ll be posting whatever the heck I want, WHENEVER the heck I want.

And with that, I bid you all a very fond farewell and goodnight. To our U.S readers: have a good Labor Day, if your employer is generous enough to give you the day off. (Mine was.)
